No matter how good your point is, its never good enough.
Did you ever get the feeling that no matter how hard you tried, no-one was listening to your opinion? Blogs can be much the same. It is very easy to mis-read / mis-interpret a post or to simply miss the point entirely. Sometimes people get the point, but choose to ignore it and argue relentlessly nevertheless. I guess some people are just like that.
If you write/talk about a sensitive issue, all logic and intelligent conversation goes out of the window.
Admittedly, there isn’t much in the way of sensitive issues when talking about web design, but in general, there is always someone that is willing to take offense to whatever it is you have to say (in this case probably my partner and most other women out there!). I wouldn’t mind if objectors comment and criticise in a controlled and understandable way, but most of the time it’s pointless unqualified drivel. I dread the thought of posting anything on religion or politics, these issues tend to attract abusive comments like flies to faeces.
Other people comment on your blog/relationship as if they know whats best.
There’s nothing more annoying that a smart-arse - especially one that feels the need to constantly put their 2 cents in and ‘enlighten’ you to things that you are already quite aware of. Now I’m all for people sharing their views and opinions, but when they write as if they are more of an authority than you, it can get quite tedious.
There’s always a better article/person out there that you wish you’d written/dated.
Ever looked at someone else’s blog and wished you’d thought of writing that? No matter how good your writing skills, or how pleased you are with what you’ve written, you’ll always feel like there is someone else with a better blog (unless you’re Seth Godin) and more interesting articles, more comments, diggs, stumbles etc.
It’s bad news if you don’t pay enough attention to it/them.
The less attention you pay to your blog, the less you get out of it. If you stop writing your articles people will stop visiting your site, stop paying attention to your articles, and your reputation will not reap the benefits of being seen as an authority in your field.
