OK, hi. I’m hoping this is going to be useful to at least some of the visitors to this site who might be looking for web hosting.
Let me be clear - these are personal recommendations, based on having used these web hosting companies and being happy with their services.
Some of these links are direct to the sites and some are affiliate links, where we might earn a buck or two if you sign up. But, they are all web hosts that either I or our company have genuinely used and we’ll link to sites that are hosted with them to prove it.
So, if you’re looking for reliable web hosting in the UK or USA, then cast your eyes over this lot:
MANAGED HOSTING FOR THIS WEBSITE AND MORE :
Just Web Designers.co.uk and all the Reach24 websites are hosted with a fairly new host called WiredTree .
Some of the guys behind WiredTree used to work for a company called LiquidWeb, who had a good reputation for managed hosting.
These guys offer managed VPS and dedicated server hosting, so the critical thing is that they’ll provide a decent level of support, will upload scripts, etc. if you need it.
We’re based in the UK and they’re in Chicago, but we’ve never had a problem with fast support.
One example: we had a server problem while I was in Egypt; one of my staff was in the UK and WiredTree were in Chicago. They managed to get this resolved to everyone’s satisfaction in time for me to return to the pool before sundown (at this hotel …highly recommended for anyone going to Luxor, Egypt).
You don’t get that level of support from most web hosts.
RECOMMENDED FOR:
If you need a dedicated or VPS with proper management and support…they get my vote. Our sites are on their dedicated hybrid server, but I am hoping that if I keep saying nice things about them, they’ll upgrade us for free (hint, hint).
BUDGET HOSTING (USA) :
You might be aware of HostGator. If you’re not, they are one of many Unix/Linux web hosts that have grown fast in the last few years.
Unlike many of their competitors, HostGator have weathered the growing pains to provide a healthy, high quality, low cost web hosting service from under $10 per month.
My own football (soccer, if you must) site www.premiershiptoday.co.uk is hosted with them and that gets a healthy number of visitors and page views per month (hundreds of thousands).
If you’re looking to host on a shared server with good support and all the trimmings, then I would suggest you check out HostGator’s hosting plans.
